Dr. Alan Collins

Dr. Alan Collins is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Food Business and Development at Cork University Business School. He is programme director of the BSc. Food Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree.  

Having gained industry experience with Tesco Plc in the UK during the late 1980’s and early 90’s, in both Marketing Services and Trading, he returned to academia and UCC. He completed his doctoral research at the University of Stirling, investigating retailer – supplier relationships. 

He has published across three domains, retailer-supplier relationships, store brands/ private labels, and consumers’ food purchasing and consumption behaviours. His teaching expertise extends from supply chain management, through retail marketing, to shopper behaviour and category management. 

Dr. Collins has maintained ongoing interaction with the grocery industry, regularly acting as adjudicator for Musgrave as part of their Supervalu and Centra Store of the Year Awards.  

He also continues to engage in store specific research activities.
